Rebecca Sorensen, BAC '85 Rebecca Sorensen, BAC ’85, Walsh alumna, is an institutional consultant, senior vice president of Investments, and wealth advisor with UBS Financial Services’ Birmingham, Mich. office. With more than 25 years investment industry experience, she is a CPA, Certified Financial Planner, and Certified Investment Management Analyst. Additionally, she has completed the Wharton School’s IMCA program on Alternative Investments. A specialist in financial and retirement planning, Rebecca assists clients with asset allocation, investment selection, and performance monitoring. Clients include individuals, foundations, endowments, and corporate and municipal retirement plans. Rebecca has lectured frequently on the subject of asset allocation and retirement planning. She has given presentations to the Michigan Association of CPAs and employees of Ford and Chrysler, as well as many other companies in Michigan, and to members of various business groups. Carla Sarti, MBA '02 Carla Sarti, MBA ’02, Walsh alumna and a director of Global Shared Services and Business Process Optimization for Lear Corporation, is demonstrating leadership in business, locally and globally. Prior to joining Lear, Carla served as Account Executive at ACS, a Xerox company, for six years, where she acted as Chief Strategy Officer and Director of Sales for many large accounts in the Finance and Accounting Outsourcing area. She spent five years at Delphi Corporation in numerous roles of increasing responsibility including managing the SAP environment after implementation and work as a Lean expert for the Cockpits business. Jeff Farrington, BBA '88, MSM '93 Walsh alumnus and State Representative Jeff Farrington is demonstrating leadership in Lansing, business, and the local community. He is serving his second term representing the 30th House District, which covers parts of Sterling Heights, Utica, and Shelby Township. Jeff earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1988 and Master of Science in Management in 1993 from Walsh College. He has worked hard to eliminate burdensome regulation in Lansing, create a positive economic environment for business, and provide good jobs for the citizens of Michigan. Lanni, Jr., MBA '05 Tom Lanni, Jr., MBA ’05, FACHE, is vice president of Oncology, Internal Medicine and Imaging for Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. He is responsible for leading the clinical, operational, financial, research, and quality and safety for these clinical areas. Tom is a member of the Society of Radiation Oncology Administrators (SROA), American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and Leadership Oakland. He serves on the board of directors for the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Michigan Gamma Knife, LLC. Tom is a member of the Finance Committee for Leadership Oakland and the Michigan Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (MCACHE). He was a previous recipient of the 2012 Beaumont’s Rising Star Leader Award and was recently recognized as a 2014 L. Brooks Patterson Elite 40-under 40-awardee. Read more about Applauding Alumni: Tom Lanni, Jr. Jesse Ford, BAC '07, MBA '10 Jesse Ford, BAC ’07, MBA ’10, started his professional career while pursuing his undergraduate degree at Walsh College through an internship with American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM). The internship opened the door to an eight- year career with AAM that gave him promotional opportunities in various treasury and finance roles. During this time he obtained his MBA with a focus on international business and his Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) certificate. After eight years, Jesse left AAM to pursue his own entrepreneurial ventures. She is also Chairman of Venture Capital Initiatives and Managing Director/Head of CitiVentures. Fortune magazine has twice named her one of the most powerful women in American business, and for three years running she has been named to the Institutional Investors Top Tech 50 list. Littmann Endowed scholarship , made possible by a generous grant of the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation. The scholarship, established in honor of Mr. Littmann’s long service to Ralph Wilson Enterprises, is intended to assist Macomb Community College transfer students, especially those individuals with children who are balancing the demands of family, work, and academics. Through his involvement on community development boards a few years ago, he learned about Blackstone Charitable Foundation’s intention to make an investment that would spark innovation and business creation in Michigan. Read more about Applauding Alumni: Mike Semanco Lou Schmidt, BBA 1990, MSF 1997 Alumnus Lou Schmidt, president of the HoneyBaked Ham Company of Michigan, has endowed a scholarship that draws on his Walsh legacy and the success of his family’s business. He specified that applicants for the Louis C. and Mary Schmidt Endowed Scholarship be enrolled in a degree program with an emphasis in either finance or marketing. Read more about Applauding Alumni: Lou Schmidt Jane Harper, MSIA 2007 Jane Harper, MSIA 2007, has a title as complex as her field. She is the Information Security Compliance Assessment and Advisory Services Leader for HAP, one of Michigan’s largest health insurance companies. Quite simply, Jane is responsible for advancing HAP’s information security posture: directing, overseeing and guiding the insurer’s ongoing IT security protocols. Lorraine Goodrich, MSF '03 Lorraine is the chief financial officer for Automotive Industry Action Group, a global trade association located in Southfield, Mich. Her 30-year background includes financial management and accounting positions in the not-for-profit, software, medical, and agriculture service industries. She obtained her CPA early in her career, and in 2003 obtained a Masters in Finance from Walsh College. Lorraine serves on the board of directors for Bloomfield Youth Guidance, as well as on the board committee for The Empowerment Plan in Detroit. Read more. David Girodat, BBA '85, MSF '92 David serves as president and CEO of Fifth Third Bank (Eastern Michigan). He is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the bank’s four main businesses. David serves on the boards of Business Leaders of Michigan, the Detroit Regional Chamber and New Detroit. He also is a member of the New Detroit Finance Committee, the Business Leaders of Michigan Audit Committee, The United Way Cabinet, Henry Ford Macomb Hospital’s Philanthropy Council, and the Ambassador Club of Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. Johnson, MBA '10 Steve is the president and founder of Motor City Tour Company, LLC (A.K.A. Motor City Brew Tours). Motor City Tour Company offers guided bus, bike, and walking tours to Michigan breweries. Steve has developed business partnerships with over 50 breweries, brewpubs and brewers who offer tours and tasting sessions to tour guests. His responsibilities include day-to-day management of the entire organization, as well as creating sales and marketing plans and campaigns using social media, e-mail and print. Read more. Aaron Opalewski, BBA '11 Aaron is the chief executive officer and co-owner of S&A Solutions Inc. S&A Solutions Inc is a recruiting firm that specializes in placing engineering, IT, defense, office, manufacturing, medical, energy, environmental and architectural services. Aaron started his business in his home in 2009 and achieved $7.1 million in sales revenue by 2012. Revenues are projected to break the $10 million this year. In 2011, Corp Magazine gave Aaron and his business partner, Steve Bronzovich, the Entrepreneurs of Distinction award. Read more. Through her career, Walsh College has been with her as she moved progressively up the corporate ladder. Today, she is the director of strategic planning at Bronson Healthcare in Kalamazoo. Read more. Arthur Kelly, BBA 2007, MBA 2009 Arthur (Art) Kelly is an IT/Business Consultant for WLGP working with the compliance department of healthcare insurance company preparing for the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA). He is a very active leader of the Walsh College Alumni Association (WCAA) as a Board member, chairing the popular Casino Night Committee and co-chairing the Marketing and Communications Committee. Since graduating from Walsh, he has remained dedicated to the team, while also maintaining a positive attitude, even as the Tigers struggled.
