Director of First Impressions: You.
Scene 1: Career Fair. Action!
Have you ever thought, “if I just had the chance to show an employer how motivated I am to put my talents to work, I’ll get a good job offer?”
The Spring Career Fair at the Novi Campus on Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 1 to 4 p.m., is your chance to be the director of first impressions on a stage set for action.
More than 90 companies will be recruiting talent at the Spring Career Fair. Please note this event is exclusively for current Walsh College students and degreed alumni.
You can introduce yourself to hiring managers and recruiters; showcase your professionalism, communication and interpersonal skills; express your desire to add value to a company and create interest that can lead to an interview – and a job offer.
Elayne Steinhardt, an advisor in Career Services, said “preparation is the key to career fair success.” A benefit available to students and alumni are workshops that Steinhardt conducts on preparation to achieve good career fair results.
Steinhardt advises attendees to “review an organization’s mission, vision, values, products, services, and competitors prior to the event to help create an effective introduction. This demonstrates that you have researched the company, know how you can add value, and shows how you are a good fit for the company culture.” It is recommended that students and alumni dress professionally and be able to tell employers why they specifically want to work for the company to demonstrate they match the organization’s goals and culture. Every employer wants to hire a candidate that will increase their profitability.
