In August, I stopped at Target a few too many times. During each visit, I saw several mothers with their children purchasing school supplies. Crowds of mothers and children can really only mean one thing: it is Back to School time!

Giving Back to the Community

Giving back to the community doesn’t necessarily mean reaching into your pocket. It can be as simple as spending a few hours volunteering in the community. From an early age, I was taught that it is important to think of others, especially those facing difficult times. There are several opportunities to give back locally, and finding one to fit your background and interest is rather easy. Look up your favorite non-profit website or search the Volunteer Match website. If you’re pressed for time, a few of my favorites are listed on this blog. Plus, one that I just learned about is being hosted by the Walsh Alumni Association on August 28 and September 25. It has a really cool grassroots effort on social media. Food Fight to End Childhood Hunger

There are many Metro Detroit non-profits that do great work for the community. One of them includes Gleaners Community Food Bank. Personally, I love what Gleaners does for the community. Besides gathering food for low-income families, it provides many other services, including Cooking Matters, which is a class showing how to prepare healthy meals on a limited budget.
