What is the ETS Major Field Test?

The ETS Major Field Test (MFT) is designed to assess student mastery of concepts, principles, and knowledge in specific business subject areas. The test may contain questions that require interpretation of graphs, diagrams, and charts.

How long is the test?

The MFT is a timed, computer-based test. The 2 hour Business MFT for BBA students consists of 120 questions and the 3 hour MBA MFT consists of 124 multiple choice questions, half of which are based on short case study scenarios. The MFTs are divided into two sections and you may take a short break in between the sections.

Do I need to study before I take the test?

Who needs to take the test?

All BBA students enrolled in MGT 461 and MBA students enrolled in MGT 670.

Why do I need to take it?

By taking the MFT, you are helping Walsh to validate the effectiveness of the BBA and MBA programs. In addition, aggregate test scores are used to improve student learning and to continually improve the curriculum. It also gives Walsh the opportunity to measure student mastery of the BBA and MBA programs.

Is there a fee to take the test?

Students are not charged a fee to take the MFT.

When do I take it?

You are encouraged to complete the MFT before the final week of the semester. If you are enrolled in an on-ground class, you may be required to take the MFT during a regularly scheduled class session. Your instructor will provide you with the testing date if this has been scheduled for your class.

Where do I take the test?

You may take the MFT at the Troy Campus Testing Center or the Novi Campus library. For information on available testing hours, see the contact information noted below.

Do I need to schedule an appointment?

Appointments are not required to take the MFT at the Troy Campus Testing Center; however, appointments are required to take the MFT at the Novi Campus library. Please call 248-823-1410 to schedule an appointment at the Novi Campus library.

I’m unable to take the test at the Troy or Novi Campus, what do I need to do?

You are still required to take the MFT; however, you should contact the Troy Campus Testing Center at 248-823-1692 or testingcenter@walshcollege.edu to make arrangements to take the MFT at another location. The MFT must be proctored and you are required to make arrangements to find a suitable proctor. Click here for detailed proctor guidelines.

I’m taking my class online, do I still need to take the test?

All students regardless of course delivery method are required to take the MFT. Online students may take the MFT at either the Troy Campus Testing Center, Novi Campus library, or at another location approved by the Troy Campus Testing Center.

What should I bring?

You need to bring a picture ID. Pencils and paper will be provided; however, calculators are not allowed during the MFT.

Will I receive a copy of my score?

You may print a copy of your test score upon completion of the MFT, providing that a printer is available.

Who will receive a copy of my score?

Individual test scores will always remain confidential. Aggregate test scores are used by the Department Chair and faculty to improve program curricula and student learning.
