  • Linda M. Hagan, PhD, serves as the Chair of the Business Communications Department at Walsh College. She also teaches doctoral and graduate courses in strategic and leadership communication, management communications, public relations strategies, and undergraduate courses in business communications.

    Before joining Walsh College in August 2007, Dr. Hagan was an Assistant Professor and Director of Off-Campus Programs in the Department of Advertising, Public Relations, and Retailing in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University, in East Lansing, Mich. She also has taught at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, N.Y., and at the University of Maryland, College Park, Md., where she earned a PhD in Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations and a cognate in Strategic Management. Dr. Hagan earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in marketing from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Mich., and a master’s degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson.

    Dr. Hagan has always had a special interest in the automotive industry. Her doctoral dissertation titled, “Public Relations, Relationships, and Reputation: A Case Study of a Safety Recall in the U.S. Automotive Industry,” focused on managing corporate crisis. She is the author of several professional journal articles and frequently writes articles for local newspapers on the importance of communication in the workplace. Dr. Hagan’s research interests, primarily specializing in qualitative research methods, include corporate communications and organization-public relationships.

    With over 15 years of corporate experience, Dr. Hagan worked for Volkswagen of America Inc. in corporate public relations and as a district sales manager for Audi of America. She was a publications consultant for Land Rover North America, in Lanham, Md.; and developed Centre Lines, the publication for U.S. Land Rover dealers.

    Dr. Hagan regularly conducts seminars and workshops on leadership communication to professional associations and community groups. She is accredited in Public Relations by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and is an active member of the PRSA’s Detroit Chapter and a member of the Academy of Management. She is co-chair of the PRSA Detroit Ethics Committee. She currently is a member of the Ethics Committee and Senior Council. Dr. Hagan also serves as the Vice President of Public Relations for Toastmasters Walsh College-Novi.
