Biography
Gary Cummings directs the Body Components Activities for GM's North American Product Development Organization. He graduated from Purdue in 1977 with a BS in mathematics and a minor in industrial engineering. He received his MS in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan and attended Cornell's Executive Development Program in 1998.
Mr. Cummings' GM career spans both manufacturing and product development. He has worked as the reliability manager for the Camaro/Firebird and the chassis vehicle systems engineer for the Corvette and Camero/Firebird. He has served as the validation director for the Luxury Product portfolio, the North American car director for vehicle validation, and the director of vehicle integration validation at the Milford Proving Ground for the North American portfolio. He also directed the Body and Exterior vehicle and systems engineers as well as the exterior development and validation activities.
He is the lead coordinator for the GM University Relations Team to Purdue and is also charged with defining and overseeing the development of the corporate grant and research activities on campus. He sits as a member of Purdue's Engineering Advisory Council as well as a member of Purdue's Engineering Education Advisory Council.
In addition to his GM duties, Mr. Cummings is an adjunct professor at Walsh College where he teaches statistics and business reengineering. In 2004 he won the Black Engineer of the Year Corporate Promotion of Education Award. He also serves on the steering committee for Pathfinders, an organization within Wayne State University's School of Medicine that raises scholarship funds for minorities interested in pursuing careers in medicine.
