  • Gerard J. Mellnick joined Walsh College in 2013 and is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Accounting Department. He teaches courses in financial accounting and auditing. He has been an accounting educator since 1998 and has taught a course in auditing at Madonna University and courses in accounting and taxation at Schoolcraft College.

    In 2007, Mr. Mellnick became a full-time business faculty member at Schoolcraft College and is currently an Assistant Professor of Business. His course offerings include introduction to business, business ethics, personal finance, personal investing, business on the web, business management, strategic selling, and marketing. He also continues to teach courses in the Accounting Department. Mr. Mellnick is a recipient of three awards in connection with his teaching, including the Schoolcraft College Presidential Recognition Award in 2005, the Michigan Campus Compact Faculty/Staff Service Learning Award in 2005, and the National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development “NISOD” Teaching Excellence Award in 2012.

    Mr. Mellnick is a licensed CPA, and has been engaged in the practice of public accounting since 1987. Over the years, Mr. Mellnick has also built and continues to operate a sole proprietor CPA practice with a focus on accounting, taxation, and business consulting. His client base includes medical, service, and non-profit entities.

    Mr. Mellnick’s industry background includes a management consulting position with BDO Seidman with experience on multiple financial and business engagements. Financial engagement experience includes specialized audits, operational reviews, budgeting, mergers and acquisitions, international finance, litigation support and development of accounting controls, policies and procedures. Business engagement experience includes human resource planning, hiring and compliance, market research and marketing plan development. Significant client exposure includes service industries, municipalities, manufacturing, non-profit, and health care.

    Mr. Mellnick’s background also includes over 17 years of directing the overall administrative and financial practices for all business units of the Building Industry Association which included two membership entities, a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation, a self-insured workers’ compensation fund and a consumer shows division. In his role as CFO, Mr. Mellnick also worked closely with the CEO providing input and leadership on strategic planning and major decision-making issues.
