Teaching Ethics in the Classroom

Why do we have to teach ethics?  Isn’t that the parent’s responsibility?  Yes and no.  There is no doubt that teaching values and ethics is the main responsibility of the family.  But you are in a position of amazing influence on the young people placed in your care.

Just as you teach academic skills, whether you realize it or not you are also teaching life skills.  The students in your classroom learn more than reading, math and science from you.  They are observing you, your reactions to them and the world around them.  Without meaning to you are imparting your ethics and values on a captive audience.

So, why not approach the topic like you would any other school subject?  Find the resources you need to proactively teach ethical behavior.

Most of the kids you come into contact with are good kids; if it wasn’t true you wouldn’t go to work day in and day out.

We invite you to take a look at some of the resources on this site.  We have suggested exercises for teaching ethics as well as links to other resources.
