Walsh College Awards Doctoral Degrees to Local Residents
Grosse Pointe Farms resident Ann Saurbier, and Midland resident Jason Lijewski, have fulfilled all of the requirements for the Walsh College Doctor of Management and will receive their degrees at the 101st Commencement ceremony on June 22 in Troy, Mich.
Dr. Saurbier's doctoral dissertation, “Tacit Quality Leadership: Operationalized Quality Perceptions as a Source of Influence in the American Higher Education Process,” focuses on making an impact on business practices.
Dr. Saurbier explored the perceptions of quality in higher learning. She looked at how accreditation peer-review teams, specifically those that review colleges and universities, assess quality. Dr. Saurbier’s study will contribute to leadership development of accreditation teams and institution-level quality pursuits.
She has been teaching in the Management and Marketing Department of Walsh College since 1997, and has more than a decade of experience in various financial management positions.
Dr. Lijewski's doctoral dissertation, “Exploring Implementation of Organizational Change Toward Environmental Sustainability,” focuses on making an impact on business practices.
Dr. Lijewski explored the practices implemented by business leaders as their organizations change to become more environmentally sustainable. The results of the study provide best practices for those leaders considering or currently in the evolutionary process of incorporating environmental sustainability within their business model.
He currently serves as an assistant professor and academic sustainability officer in the Business and Information Technology Department at Delta College, located in University Center, Mich. Dr. Lijewski also teaches courses in marketing and advertising, drawing on his professional advertising experience in the automotive industry.
“Ann and Jason are scholar-practitioners,” said Linda Hagan, Ph.D., director of graduate programs. “By drawing on their professional business experiences and extensive learning in management theories, they conducted research with industry leaders within their respective areas of interest to contribute to real-world business. It’s our mission at Walsh College to blend theory and application.”
All Doctor of Management dissertations, as well as the dissertations of Walsh doctoral faculty, can be found in the Walsh College Troy Campus library.
