Enjoying Summer as a Walsh Student

Walsh College students ‘Live and Breathe Business,’ but that doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy their summer. I asked some current Walsh students what they like to do with their free time during the summer months.  Let’s see what they’re up to!

Rasheed Badawi

Rasheed Badawi is an MBA student and is taking MGT 530 and MKT 553 for the summer semester.

Rasheed loves to go to school, work, and to have fun. If he were to lose any of these aspects of his life it would be upsetting to him. He forces himself to keep a balance by not taking them for granted. He decided to go to school full-time and to work part-time. It allows him the opportunity to have free time on the weekends to enjoy the summer.

“I try to take advantage of any outdoor event as much as possible, like camping and kayaking. I make sure I drink as much lemonade as I want and can, because sooner or later, winter is coming!”

Valerie Debler

Valerie is a BBA – ACP student and is taking TAX 495 for the summer semester. She works full-time and goes to school part-time. Valerie states that time management is key in order to have free time to enjoy the summer

As a student taking summer classes, Valerie spends most of her time at home outside on the patio studying. She also has the privilege to not take work home, and she studies during her lunch break. This way she gets to spend time with friends and family, “I have to have free time, otherwise I’d go insane.”

“I have to remind myself to enjoy summer days. Recently, my husband and I had a getaway weekend to London, Ontario to visit Sunfest (an annual festival) and we got to do the zip-line at Boler Mountain. Both the festival and zip-lining adventure were great experiences.”

Kevin Lozen

Kevin is an MSA student and is taking ACC 506 for the summer semester. He works full-time as an accountant at Cherokee Insurance Company, and goes to school part-time.

“During the summer I like to be outside as much as I can. With work and school it can be difficult, but I try my best to make the most of my free time.”

As a part-time Walsh student, Kevin enjoys his summer playing golf and spending time with friends and family preferably by the pool or at the beach.

The last student I interviewed was Megan Sheeran. She is a BAC full-time student and is taking ACC 303, ACC 419 and COM 340 for the summer semester. She currently works full-time, which unfortunately can sometimes affect her grades she said. Megan is a straight “A” student. “During the semester I don’t have too much fun. During my free time I study. Once in a while I take mini vacations or go to the beach or a nearby fair with friends.”

We all know that going to school and working is not easy. However, make sure you take time off to enjoy the summer months.

What about you? How do you enjoy your free time?
