Shannon Cobb started her own business, Sweethearts & Co., with her partner, Samantha Dionne. The
company customizes candy buffets for special events. Cobb earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Walsh College in 2012.
Class of 2009
Tonya McNeal-Weary, Founder of the Michigan Association for Female Entrepreneurs and Young Entrepreneurs Series (YES), received the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Center for Empowerment & Economic Development (CEED). Weary graduated from Walsh College in 2009 with a Master of Business Administration.
Class of 2008
Jason Beale of Warren tied for second place overall in the Walsh College Blackstone LaunchPad “Make it Better” Competition. He was awarded $250 for his concept of a virtual yard sign that provides geolocation of home contractors working in neighborhoods, before and after photos of contractor work performed inside homes, and links to customer reviews. Beale earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Walsh College in 2008.
Class of 2007
The Walsh College Board of Trustees elected Brian Pilarski from Brown and Brown Insurance Inc., as one of its new members, to a three-year term on the Walsh College Foundation Board of Directors. Pilarski has served actively on the Alumni Association Board of Directors since 2008, including the role of president for four years. Pilarski is also a partner with Cornerstone Charter Schools, which provides educational opportunities for Detroit children. He earned a Master of Science in Management from Walsh College in 2007.
Class of 2004
Scott Myrick, has become a partner in the Toast Restaurant Group, which owns and operates Toast Ferndale and Toast Birmingham.
Toast has received several awards, including best breakfast for the last 11 years, along with others for service and customer satisfaction. Myrick graduated from Walsh College with a Bachelor’s in Administration in 2004 and a Master of Business Administration in 2010.
Class of 1995
Christine Santos, CFO of TTi Global, earned the Crain’s 2013 CFO of the Year award for the midsize private company category. Santos’ claim to fame is steering TTi Global through of a period of growth that included setting up financial processes for 13 new foreign offices.
She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Walsh College in 1995.
Class of 1990
Lou Schmidt, Jr, president of Troy-based Honey Baked Ham Company - Michigan Division, was invited by Walsh College’s Leadership Center to discuss his family’s business success at Walsh College. Schmidt is a double alumnus of Walsh College who earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1990 and a Master of Finance in 1997. He was recently elected to the Walsh College Foundation Board of Directors, serves as a director of Citizen’s Bank, and is on the board of Crime Stoppers of Michigan. He is also the head coach for the Birmingham Brother Rice High School Varsity Hockey Team.
Class of 1981
The Walsh College Board of Trustees elected Mike Ziecik, a founding principal and partner in Forum Group, as one of its new members, to a three-year term on the Walsh College Foundation Board of Directors. Ziecik is currently a member of the Michigan Association of CPAs, the Commercial Board of Realtors-Michigan, the Urban Land Institute, and CoreNet Global. He earned a Master of Science in Taxation from Walsh College in 1981.
Class of 1975
The Walsh College Board of Trustees elected Jerry Schafer, Corporate Vice President of Worldwide Development, McDonald’s Corp, as one of its new members, to a three-year term on the Walsh College Foundation Board of Directors. Schafer has led McDonald’s development in China since 2004. He began his career at McDonald’s while in high school in Eastpointe, Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Accountancy from Walsh College in 1975.
