Meet the New Career Services Advisor

Tracy Morgan is the newest member of the Career Services team here at Walsh College. She started her position with us at the end of September and has settled right in.  Tracy comes to Walsh with loads of career services experience! She worked most recently at MI Works as an employment technician and before that she taught employability skills to high school students and worked in corporate at Chrysler.

Applauding Alumni: Rebecca Sorensen, BAC '85

Rebecca is an institutional consultant, senior vice president of Investments, and wealth advisor with UBS Financial Services’ Birmingham, Mich. office. With more than 25 years investment industry experience, she is a CPA, Certified Financial Planner, and Certified Investment Management Analyst. Additionally, she has completed the Wharton School’s IMCA program on Alternative Investments. A specialist in financial and retirement planning, Rebecca assists clients with asset allocation, investment selection, and performance monitoring.  Clients include individuals, foundations, endowments, and corporate and municipal retirement plans.  Rebecca has lectured frequently on the subject of asset allocation and retirement planning. She has given presentations to the Michigan Association of CPAs and employees of Ford and Chrysler, as well as many other companies in Michigan, and to members of various business groups.

In recognition of the amount of effort required to complete a Walsh degree, graduates are automatically enrolled in the Walsh College Alumni Association (WCAA) at no cost. This bi-monthly Board Meeting is open for all WCAA members to attend, network and participate in the leadership of the Alumni Association.

Open to all Walsh College alumni and student leaders. Committee positions available.

Focus: HOPE Holiday Meal Delivery

Join the members of the Walsh College Alumni Association (WCAA) Community Projects committee as they partner with Focus Hope for their Holiday Delivery Program. Each year prior to the holidays, volunteers donate food and other gift items for Focus: HOPE's Senior Holiday Program. Volunteers deliver these packages to over 1200 low income senior citizens. Please help the WCAA provide a little holiday cheer for someone in need.

Blackstone LaunchPad Member News

The Blackstone LaunchPad Team and their members were busy celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Paul GlantzOur 4th Annual Walshpreneur Fair took place on Monday, November 17th.  Over 100 attendees were inspired by keynote speaker Paul Glantz of Emagine Entertainment.  The inspiration continued as the audience listened to a panel discussion with four Blackstone LaunchPad entrepreneurs talking about “what it’s really like to start a business”, facilitated by Mike Semanco of Hitachi Business Financial.  Several Blackstone LaunchPad members showcased their business and attendees were able to sample cookies (Cookies by Chris), and organic lotions (Ruma Organics), paint a quick picture (Picasso’s Grapevine) and even learn how to correctly sit at your desk (Great Pilates Now), just to name a few.  The Troy Chamber also was showcased and State Representative Martin Howrylak was in attendance.  Save the date for our 5th Annual Walshpreneur Fair on Monday, November 16th, 2015!

Best of MichBusinessOur celebration continued as we attended the Best of MichBusiness Awards Banquet on Tuesday, November 18th at the Antheneum Hotel, where seven of our Blackstone LaunchPad members received awards.  Winners of the Best of Hatched™ included:  Steve Johnson of Motor City Brew Tours, Sylvia Ruma of Ruma Organics, Jesse Ford of The Work, Inc. and Anthony Majewski for Read with Max.  Anthony also received the 2014 Small Business Champion award.  The Stellar Start-Up award was given to Leanna Haun of Picasso’s Grapevine.  Denise Kulak, owner of other Fun Stuff! was designated by the Michigan Business Professional Association as a One Person Wonder!

A brief article about Ruma Organics appeared in the November 19th edition of the Macomb Daily.  Sylvia’s line of personal care products was selected for inclusion in the gift bags to be given to performers, presenters and nominees at this year’s Latin Grammy awards!

Our celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week ended with President Bergeron and Blackstone LaunchPad member Denise Kulak being interviewed by Mark Lee for Small Talk Radio on WXYT AM 1270 which aired on Sunday, November 23rd.  President Bergeron spoke about Global Entrepreneurship Week and the influence Walsh College places on entrepreneurship, including the Blackstone LaunchPad, Entrepreneur-YOU, and the Walshpreneur Fair.  In addition, President Bergeron also spoke about the 2020 strategic vision, and Walsh College's position in the marketplace. Denise shared the history of her business, and the journey the led to her becoming an entrepreneur.
