  • Brief Description
  • Steven M. Ranger, P.E., MSF, is a clinical assistant professor in the finance department of Walsh College.  His primary instructional responsibilities at Walsh College include financial statement analysis and computer applications for business and finance.  Mr. Ranger has instructed numerous undergraduate and graduate courses for both Finance and Management majors since he joined Walsh College in 2001 as an adjunct associate professor.

Mr. Ranger earned his Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1984, and his Masters of Science degree in Finance from Walsh College in 1997. He worked in the environmental services field on a full-time basis as both Engineer and Project Manager for 12 years before changing careers and accepting a position as a residential loan officer for a mortgage broker located in southeastern Michigan. After two years in residential lending, he became a senior financial analyst with a privately-held property management and development company and maintained this position until 2007 when he dedicated himself full-time to Cedar Real Estate Investments, a real estate management and development company he started with two other partners.

Mr. Ranger’s varied positions in the field of real estate have required that he become adept at preparing and analyzing the financial statements of not only the properties he manages but also those financial statements applicable to properties being considered for acquisition. It is also essential to Mr. Ranger’s business to be able to gather insight into the financial strengths and weaknesses of Cedar Real Estate’s tenants through the review of their financial statements.

Mr. Ranger’s experiences in environmental engineering and project management have helped him to establish an expertise in capital budgeting and financial forecasting.  He continues to keep track of progress and activities in the specialized area of real estate associated with brownfield redevelopment, and he looks forward to blending both his engineering and finance expertise in this field through Cedar Real Estate.  Mr. Ranger is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Michigan and has been so for over 20 years.
