Graduate Communication Assessment

All new graduate students entering the MBA, MSF, MSITL, MSM, MSMKT and Dual degree programs are required to complete the Graduate Communication Assessment (GCA). Students starting in fall 2015 and later must complete the Graduate Communication Assessment prior to their first COM 510 class session. Students enrolled in the summer 2015 COM 510 course, will take the Graduate Communication Assessment the first night of class.

The Graduate Communication Assessment may be taken at the Troy Campus Testing Center or the Novi Campus library. An appointment is required to take the Graduate Communication Assessment. Click here to schedule an appointment at the Troy Campus Testing Center. Students are not charged a fee for the Graduate Communication Assessment. The Graduate Communication Assessment is administered online and timed at 30 minutes. It is not repeatable.

The Graduate Communication Assessment will assess writing skills in three areas:

  • Grammar and mechanics
  • Style 
  • Organization and development

Students who do not meet the cut score will be required to complete additional assignments and meet weekly with a tutor while enrolled in COM 510.
