For more than 80 years, Walsh College has maintained a prestigious reputation for the quality of its accounting program. Today, the Walsh College Master of Science in Accounting (MAC) degree remains the “gold standard” of excellence in business education. Students graduating with the MAC degree will enter the marketplace armed with skills that are backed by the Walsh College heritage of unmatched quality in the academic preparation of accounting professionals.

This degree gives students the skills necessary to excel in jobs that are becoming more visible and complicated amidst a global economy and increased scrutiny of corporate accounting practices.

Opportunities for Employment
The need to replace accountants is expected to generate numerous job openings. As business and the economy expand, the need for accountants and auditors will rise. The demand for accounting professionals is expected to increase through 2012. Much of this growth is the result of additional governmental controls and renewed emphasis on accountability and independent auditing in the wake of corporate and Wall Street scandals.

Program Format
In order to complete the MAC program a student must have the following:

  • An undergraduate degree or higher from a college or university accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.750 or better on a 4.000 scale.
  • All graduate students are expected to be proficient in current computer software applications for word processing.

Applicants with previous accounting coursework may be required to submit documentation of GMAT score of 500, CPA licensure, or take a Walsh College accounting placement exam.  Applicants without any previous accounting coursework will not be required to submit the above mentioned documentation however they will be required to complete all required foundation courses (ACC 500, ACC 501 and ACC 502).

The MAC curriculum consists of 12-15 courses for a total of 36-45 credit hours dependent on previous accounting coursework completed.
