June 2010 Commencement Student Speaker

I am a single mom, and at the time of my bachelor commencement ceremony my children were ten and eight.  They knew that college was the reason I wasn’t always there to tuck them in at night or to attend all their sports games.  Instead of playing with them on the weekends, typically they watched me study. Fortunately, my parents were there to support me and handled some of these responsibilities.

Commencement is the culmination of all the hard work, sleepless nights studying and all those group projects.  Being the student speaker was a great opportunity for two reasons.  First, I was able to publicly thank my family for all their support and sacrifices.  Second, it was a chance to thank the teachers who helped me achieve my educational goals.
