Walsh College’s award-winning, 1,400 sq. ft., glass-encased Finance Lab provides students with a hands-on environment to examine the principles of market structure and learn the software programs which drive the financial marketplace. The lab is an extension of Walsh’s philosophy to give students the real-world experience employers are seeking in today’s competitive job market.
The Walsh College Finance Lab includes technologies to deliver Wall Street and world markets to students. Currently, there are 11 dual-screen Bloomberg terminals in the lab, including two breakout rooms for meetings or group projects. The lab also supports an additional Bloomberg terminal located in the Troy Campus Library.
A full-color LED ticker winds along the top of the lab's outer wall with a continuous live feed of current stock prices and programmable messages. An interactive Rise Market Wall provides students with data about various global financial markets.
The Finance Lab’s research tools and databases will be useful to students and instructors in accounting, economics, MBA, marketing, management, business information systems, and information assurance courses. The Lab’s large-screen video displays will provide students with the resources to produce colorful, multimedia presentations with impact.
To ensure that proper support is provided to students and faculty, the Walsh College Finance Lab is overseen by a full-time faculty sponsor. The faculty sponsor coordinates with the chair of the Finance and Economics Department in the creation and implementation of a strategic plan to support the learning objectives of the school. The lab is staffed by a lab manager as well as student lab assistants who in conjunction with the finance lab sponsor, develop, and implement training and support programs for students and faculty. One-on-one as well as group training programs for students and faculty are created and applied as well as providing assistance to students in the application of student research and homework assignments.
The Finance Lab is expected to significantly improve the learning experience for all Walsh students.
