Thursday, August 17, 2017 - Walsh College Names Michael Rinkus Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer

Walsh College President and CEO Marsha Kelliher announced the appointment of Michael Rinkus, DBA, as executive vice president and chief academic officer of the College, effective Aug. 7.

Dr. Rinkus served as the interim executive vice president and chief academic officer since April 2016. In this role, Dr. Rinkus oversees academic standards and accreditation, and provides Walsh College with strategic and operational leadership to ensure the academic programs meet the needs of employers, faculty, staff, and students.

Dr. Rinkus has been part of the Walsh community for nearly three decades, serving in a variety of capacities, including full-time professor of finance and economics. Dr. Rinkus’ expertise has been in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in international finance, financial institutions, capital markets, financial statement analysis, and international management.

We are excited to have his continued commitment to the school, students, and faculty for years to come.”

Throughout his career at Walsh College, Dr. Rinkus has spearheaded new classes and initiatives for students, including creating and implementing a graduate class in international trade financing techniques and managing the Walsh College Finance Lab, where he was responsible for the rollout and implementation of pedagogical materials, instructor use, Bloomberg software, and day-to-day happenings in the Lab. He is a highly sought-after speaker on numerous financial topics.

Prior to Walsh College, Dr. Rinkus held an extensive professional business career comprised of several corporate finance executive positions including senior vice president and international lender of trade finance, International Operations at Comerica Bank, where he also started and managed the bank’s Hong Kong subsidiary; and senior vice president of marketing and sales at JV Carr and Son.

Dr. Rinkus earned a Doctor of Business Administration from Lawrence Technological University. He earned his Master of Arts in Management at Central Michigan University and his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Wayne State University. Dr. Rinkus is also a U.S. Army veteran.
