How to Prepare for a Successful Career Fair

For students and alumni, the Career Fair is a great chance to meet face-to-face with employers. The Career Fair offers dozens of opportunities for all Walsh majors and degree programs including openings in accounting, finance, tax, marketing, management, and IT, and positions in HR, supply chain, and cybersecurity.

Walsh Career Services offer a Spring Career Fair and a Fall Career Fair each year. The Fall Career Fair on Wednesday, Sep. 11, from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Troy location will feature more than 50 employers with open positions including:

DTE Energy - recruiting for their internship program

General Dynamics Land Systems - recruiting for interns and full-time positions

H. W. Kaufman Group – recruiting for Assistant Underwriter, It Support Analyst, Marketing Specialist, Business Analyst, Accounting, Operations, and Human Resources

Office of the Comptroller of the Currency – recruiting for Assistant National Bank Examiner

Rocket Mortgage by Quicken Loans – recruiting for Sales, Mortgage Banking, and Underwriting

Preparing for Success

Make sure to prepare before the event so you will stand out in a positive way, leaving a great impression with employers.

  • Develop and practice an elevator speech, perfect your hand shake, and dress for success.
  • Research the companies that are attending the career fair by visiting their website and social media pages, especially LinkedIn.
  • Be prepared to answer questions about the company, as well as ask some of your own.
  • Request a business card after each interaction and jot down notes about the conversation so you can follow-up later.
  • Connect with recruiters after the Career Fair, through email or on LinkedIn.
