Graduate Communication Assessment

The communication assessment is designed to assess business professional writing skills in three areas:

  • Grammar and mechanics
  • Style
  • Organization and development

It is highly recommended that students take the communication assessment immediately upon admission to Walsh College. It is administered free of charge, completed online, and can only be taken one time. Students taking the communications assessment will simply respond to the writing prompt and by writing their response in an essay format.

New graduate students entering the MAC, MSF, MSITL, and Dual degrees are required to complete the Graduate Communication Assessment (GCA) prior to their first COM 510 Leadership Communication class session.

The exam is scored on a scale of 1 through 6. Students with a score of 5 or higher will not be required to complete the COM 510 course as part of their program.

Appeal Information

Generally, the Communication Assessment may only be taken one time and is not repeatable. However, students may appeal scores or request a review/retake if there are special circumstances that need to be considered. Appeals must be submitted in writing to assessment@walshcollege.edu within 2 weeks of completing your exam in order for the request to be considered by the Communications Department Chair and/or the Office of Accreditation and Assessment.
