Graduate Communication Assessment (GCA)

About the GCA

All graduate students entering the MAB, MBA, MSF, MSITL, MSM, MSMKT and dual MBA degree programs are required to complete the Graduate Communication Assessment (GCA) prior to their first COM 510 (COM 525 for MAB students) class session.

Students are not charged a fee for the Graduate Communication Assessment. The Graduate Communication Assessment is administered online and timed at 45 minutes. It is not repeatable.

The Graduate Communication Assessment will assess writing skills in three areas:

  • Grammar and mechanics
  • Style
  • Organization and development

Students who do not meet the cut score will be required to complete additional assignments and meet weekly with a tutor while enrolled in COM 510 (COM 525 for MAB students).

The Graduate Communication Assessment must be proctored, and an appointment is required. It may be taken at the Troy or Novi Campus, an approved external testing site or on pre-selected dates at the Macomb University Center.
