Walsh College

All graduate students entering the MAB, MBA, MSF, MSITL, MSM, MSMKT and dual MBA degree programs are required to complete the Graduate Communication Assessment (GCA) prior to their first COM 510 (COM 525 for MAB students) class session.

The Graduate Communication Assessment must be proctored, and an appointment is required. It may be taken at the Troy or Novi Campus, an approved external testing site or on pre-selected dates at the Macomb University Center.

Novi Campus: The Novi Campus Library hours and other information can be found online here. Please call the Novi Campus Administrative Office at 248-349-5454 to schedule an appointment to take the GCA at the Novi Campus Library.

Macomb University Center in Clinton Township: The Graduate Communication Assessment will be offered at the University Center on pre-selected dates by appointment only. You may schedule a UC testing appointment by calling 586-723-1500.

Students are not charged a fee for the Graduate Communication Assessment. The Graduate Communication Assessment is administered online and timed at 45 minutes. It is not repeatable.

Students are eligible to complete the Graduate Communication Assessment once they have applied and been admitted to Walsh College.

The Graduate Communication Assessment will assess writing skills in three areas:

  • Grammar and mechanics
  • Style 
  • Organization and development

Students who do not meet the cut score will be required to complete additional assignments and meet weekly with a tutor while enrolled in COM 510 (COM 525 for MAB students).
